Summer Diversions

As many of you know, I’m an eclectic person with diverse passionate interests. One of the joys in my life is my role as a community college history professor. I enjoy teaching and interacting with students about historical topics, including contemporary events. History’s important, after all. I’ve found that it’s easier to see where you’re going if you have a sound understanding of where you’ve been.

That being said, I’m also a big fan of summer break. Those three months of break between the spring and fall semesters permits me the time I need to recharge both my academic and social batteries. And, of course, some of my favorite summer diversions include reading, creative writing, streaming shows and anime, and catching some movies at the theater.

With regards to streaming, I thoroughly enjoyed the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm. It’s PEAK viewing for a reality show as it’s an epic insight into real-life farming in the UK, including heartfelt reflections on the challenges and joys of owning and operating a large scale farm hosting both animals and diverse crops. I’m also streaming a period UK drama on BritBox set in the 1890s called The Hardacres.

On the anime side of things, I’m rewatching season 2 of Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation before getting into the recent drop of season 3. I’m also enjoying season 4 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and seasons 2 of Skeleton Knight in Another World and Farming Life in Another World. (Yes, I’m a sucker for a good isekai.) Then there’s slice of life romance anime such as seasons 2 of both Hana Kimi and A Couple of Cuckoos. For movies, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the theater recently. I love Spider-Man and cherished reading the comics growing up. Tom Holland does a great job portraying Peter Parker.
