My Final Birthday Gift Arrived Today!

Amazon Kindle Voyage

The last of my birthday gifts finally arrived earlier today!

As a matter of fact, I ordered it for myself over the weekend. For a couple of years, I’ve wanted a new Amazon Kindle device. My old reliable is a Kindle 3 keyboard style (see photo below) and it’s served me very well over the years. However, I’m smitten with the idea of being able to read the newest fonts at the eye-comforting 300 PPI resolution, as well as have the ability to read in darkness without having to attach one of those little annoying book lamps to my device.

Enter the top-of-the-line Kindle Voyage (The version with both WiFi and 3G but with NO advertisements!).

Oh, I was so surprised at how LIGHT it feels compared to my old Kindle. And the screen is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and so very pleasing to read from. In bright conditions, the screen auto-adjusts to plain white (non-lit, non-glare) background, which looks precisely like the traditional ivory-white paper of a printed book. The sharp, dark fonts appear exactly like the finest printed script of a traditional book, as well. Oh, how I see many hours of both indoor and outdoor reading in my future!

Setup for my home’s WiFi was a cinch, and linking my Facebook and Goodreads accounts was a snap. The on-screen keyboard that pops up when you need to type something is functional and not overly-annoying. The screen is quite sensitive to normal touch. I didn’t have to re-touch the screen to activate options. And the flush-mounted side buttons that you swipe your thumb or finger over to activate page-forward/page-backward is effortless and easy to use. All-in-all, it appears that Amazon put together one of the nicest, smart eReader devices on the market. Way to go, Amazon!

Okay, so the real test will be the reading that I’m looking forward to this weekend. I’ll let you know how things go in future blog posts.

For some of you, there will be groans and eye-rolling over my new eReader, and that’s fine. I like hardcopy books, but the ease of carrying my entire library around with this smaller, thinner Kindle is too convenient to ignore. I just don’t like lugging around solid books with me anymore. So, for me, the new Kindle Voyage is amazing!

Do you enjoy using an eReader, or at the very least, swapping between eReaders and traditional printed books? Drop me a comment and let me know which eReader you enjoy.

Until later, enjoy life; be kind to those around you, and Happy Reading! Peace.
